What Is a King Size Mattress?
A king size mattress is the most popular large mattress in the UK. It is wide enough for two people to sleep without crowding each other, and long enough for most adults to stretch out in comfort. If you and your partner keep waking each other up, or you simply want more room to spread out, a king size mattress is often the answer.

King Size Mattress Sizes
People often ask what are the dimensions of a king size bed mattress. A standard king size mattress in the UK measures 5 feet wide by 6 feet 6 inches long, which is 150 centimetres by 200 centimetres. That gives each person about 2 feet 6 inches of width, the same as a single bed each, side by side.
If you need even more room, a mattress super king size measures 6 feet wide by 6 feet 6 inches long. A super king is the widest standard size you can buy, and it suits large bedrooms and couples who want the most space possible.
Before you order, measure your bedroom and your bed frame. A king size mattress needs a matching king size base or frame, and you need enough room to walk around the bed once it is in place.
Memory Foam, Pocket Sprung or Hybrid?
There are three main types of king size mattress, and the best one for you depends on how you sleep.
A memory foam mattress king size is made from foam that softens with your body heat and moulds around your shape. It spreads your weight evenly and takes pressure off your shoulders and hips. It is a good choice if you like a soft, hugging feel, and it also cuts down movement, so you feel less when your partner turns over. You can see our memory foam mattresses
A pocket sprung mattress has hundreds or thousands of springs, and each spring sits in its own fabric pocket, so it moves on its own. This means the mattress supports each part of your body separately and gives a bouncy, breathable feel. A 1000 pocket sprung mattress king size has 1,000 individual springs, which gives steady support across the whole mattress. You can browse pocket sprung mattresses
A hybrid mattress king size combines springs and foam in one mattress. You get the support and airflow of springs with the comfort of a foam top layer. King size hybrid mattresses are a popular middle ground, and a hybrid king-size mattress is a good choice if you cannot decide between foam and springs. A king size mattress hybrid gives you the best of both, with a supportive base and a soft sleeping surface.
Firm, Medium Firm or Soft?
Firmness is a personal choice, and there is no single right answer.
A firm king size mattress suits people who sleep on their back or front, and anyone who likes a solid, flat sleeping surface. It holds your body up and stops your hips from sinking too far down.
A king size medium firm mattress is the middle choice, and it suits most sleepers. It is firm enough to support you and soft enough to cushion your shoulders and hips. If you and your partner like different firmness levels, medium firm is usually the safest choice.
A soft king size mattress suits side sleepers and people who like a gentle, sinking feel. It lets your shoulders and hips sink in a little, which takes pressure off your joints.
If you sleep hot, look for a king size cooling mattress. These use breathable layers and open foam that let air move through the mattress, so you stay cooler through the night.
King Size Beds with a Mattress Included
Buying a bed and a mattress together is simpler and often cheaper than buying them separately. A king size bed and mattress set means the base and the mattress are made to fit each other, so you do not have to worry about sizes.
A king size bed with mattress included is a good option if you are setting up a new bedroom from scratch. A kingsize bed and mattress bought together also saves you a second delivery, and everything arrives at the same time.
A king size ottoman bed with mattress gives you a lift-up storage base with a mattress on top, so you get hidden storage for bedding, clothes and spare pillows without needing extra furniture. A king size divan bed and mattress is another good choice, because a divan base is strong, simple and neat, and it often comes with drawers for storage. You can find king size divan beds with mattress options in our divan range, and a divan mattress king size fits a standard divan base perfectly.
Look out for king size bed and mattress deals when you shop. During a king size mattress sale you can often find a good mattress at a lower price, and buying the bed and mattress as a set usually costs less than buying them one by one.
How to Find a Good King Size Mattress at a Low Price
A good king size mattress does not have to cost a fortune. If you are looking for a cheap king size mattress, start by deciding what matters most to you: the type of mattress, the firmness and the size. A low price king size mattress can still be comfortable and supportive if you choose the right type for how you sleep.
An inexpensive king size mattress from a small UK bed shop can offer the same comfort as a big-brand mattress at a much lower price, because you are not paying for a famous name or a high street shop. If you want a cheap king size mattress UK delivery is free at Kensley Home, and you can pay on delivery, so there is no risk in ordering.
King size memory foam mattresses start from £170 in our range, and a kingsize memory foam mattress is one of the most popular choices for couples. Memory foam suits people who like a soft, quiet mattress that moulds to their body.
Summary
The best king size mattress is the one that fits your body, your sleeping style and your bedroom. A firm mattress suits back sleepers, a soft mattress suits side sleepers, and a medium firm mattress suits most people. Memory foam moulds to your body, pocket springs give bouncy support, and a hybrid gives you both.
If you want the best king size mattress UK shoppers trust for comfort and value, start with a medium firm mattress in the type you like best. And if you are buying a bed as well, a king size bed and mattress set with free delivery and pay on delivery is the simplest way to get a good night's sleep. Visit our home page to start browsing
